2020 Fundraising Events

An All-American Evening…Beads and Bling – It’s a Mardi Gras Thing

This annual event was originally scheduled for 25 April, then due to COVID-19, was rescheduled to 29 August and subsequently had to be cancelled.  This event normally includes fun, food, auctions, and entertainment at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.  Attendees also participate in a silent auction of art, jewelry, event tickets, sporting items and much more plus a fast-paced live auction; a gourmet meal by Elite Catering; a themed costume contest and wine and spirits tasting.  In spite of the cancellation, most of our sponsors and donors allowed us to keep their donations, which ended up raising $107,037.61 (after expenses) for the benefit of the Wright-Patterson and Dayton VA Medical Center Fisher Houses (and has raised $1,235,199.56 (after expenses) since it started in September 2004).  The committee is carrying the 2020 theme over to the 2021 event.

Popcorn Operation

In July 2004, the Fisher/Nightingale Houses, Inc., assumed responsibility for the popcorn operation conducted at the Wright-Patt Medical Center and continued support in 2020.  A small group of volunteers pop popcorn three or four days a week for donations; they totaled 131 volunteer hours in 2020; unfortunately the popcorn operation was shut down in mid-March 2020 due to COVID-19 and is pending the reopening.  This activity raised $957.40 (after expenses) for the benefit of the Wright-Patterson Fisher Houses. Through the volunteer efforts expended since July 2004, the gross amount raised by this successful fundraiser took us to nearly $305,000 in popcorn donations – that’s a lot of popcorn!

The Fisher/Nightingale Houses, Inc. also participates in the Combined Federal Campaign, the United Way of Greater Dayton Area and the State of Ohio Combined Charitable Campaign.

NOTE: The impact of COVID-19 on fundraisers in 2020 had a significant impact upon our organization. With the loss of eighteen fundraisers in 2020 (and a loss of more than $156,000 in income – as compared to the same events/income in 2019), it was a year of resourcefulness and perseverance. 2020 showed us that while we are distanced from each other, we were still able to come together to make a difference!
